Thierry Henry reveals secret message sent to Chelsea star ahead of big move
Thierry Henry has revealed that he warned Romelu Lukaku about joining Chelsea and that the striker has no desire to return to the club.
Lukaku joined Chelsea from Inter in a £97.5 million deal in 2021, but he struggled to make an impact in his first season back at Stamford Bridge, scoring only 15 goals in 44 appearances.
After making it clear that he was unhappy at Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel, the club allowed him to rejoin Inter on loan last summer.
Henry, who worked as an assistant coach with Belgium’s national team alongside Lukaku, claims he told the striker that he would ‘find it difficult’ to thrive under Tuchel.
Arsenal’s all-time leading scorer also believes Lukaku has no future at Chelsea under Graham Potter.
‘I told him he’d have a difficult time playing at Chelsea, and that turned out to be the case because of Tuchel’s style of play.
‘Pressing, the No.9 and winger must change, Rom likes to stay where he is, feed him, play him early, he will try to bully you, turn, stay in the box, crosses, he’s a different type of No.9 than Tuchel wanted.
‘Is he going to fit in with what Potter is trying to do now? I believe they are struggling with that, even without him on the squad.
‘But what exactly does he want to do? The main thing is that I don’t think he wants to go back; I think he wants to stay at Inter.
‘And that’s where there’s maybe going to be a little clash if they want him back because I think he wants to stay there.
‘The manner in which he returned. ‘Everyone knows what I want to do, what I want to do is stay,’ he said the other day.

On Wednesday evening, Lukaku scored the late winner for Inter in their 1-0 Champions League victory over Porto.
After the game, when asked about his future, the striker stated that he has had little contact with Chelsea about returning this summer.
‘I haven’t spoken to anyone,’ Lukaku admitted.
‘I concentrate on myself and the present; I don’t want to think about the future right now because it doesn’t make sense.
‘Football is the most important thing right now; I just want to perform and prepare for the next game at the weekend.’
